Addie's first official haircut was done at a salon over spring break. She was almost 3 years-old. Her first haircut took place a couple of weeks earlier at home by "Stylist Reilly."
When I picked up Addie from daycare that day, her caretaker had put her hair in a ponytail on top of her head with a braid.
Later that evening at home, I believe Addie told Reilly she wanted to take her ponytail and braid out, but she could not get the ponytail holders out of her hair! Reilly decided to help her little sister by trying to cut out the ponytail holders with our big pair of scissors!
I was doing dishes at the time. The girls were running around playing, and Dave was making dinner. Addie appeared in the kitchen, and I thought her ponytail looked a little bit funky (it had been chopped off of her head!), but it was not until a few moments later that I found out what exactly had happened. Dave found Addie's braid on the floor and brought it to me! He held it up for me to see and said, "Look what Reilly did!"
Then we found another chunk of hair in the bathroom.
At first, we were upset with Reilly, but we soon realized that she did not mean to cut Addie's braid off of her head; she really just wanted to help Addie remove her ponytail holders! Reilly felt terrible! I sat with her in her bedroom and told her it was okay, that Addie's hair would grow back. I also told her to just come get me next time to help!
Reilly was very sad for a while that night. It was sad to see her so sad. But you know what? It is kind-of funny now! And let's face it: Addie's hair had been growing in kind-of weird for a long time. It really needed to be cut short, anyway! It all worked out for the best.
My mom loves Addie's new short haircut, and so do we! Now Reilly wants her hair cut short, too, but I will not let her do that quite yet! Maybe after she turns 5. Her hair is getting so long, and it is so pretty on her! I want her to donate it for a great cause.
Here are some photos from Addie's first time at the salon. Both of our girls had their first haircuts right before they turned 3 years-old!
Addie's hair looked so funny after Reilly cut it! Reilly actually did a great job trimming Addie's bangs, but there was a huge chunk gone from the back of her head!
Check out Addie's seat! We love our salon! And it is right in the small town where we live! I love that there is light in there!
Below is the best pose I could get out of her once she was done! I wish we would have cut her hair a little bit shorter! Short hair is really cute on her!
Finally, here is a quick snap of the braid. We now have it saved in her Memory Box for when she is older! Too funny!
THE END.
